Description
This day trip connects two of the most fascinating natural spaces in inland Andalusia, offering a perfect contrast between protected wildlife and the most unique geological landscapes in Southern Europe: Lobo Park Antequera and the karst environment of El Torcal. Accompanied by a nature interpreter guide, the route is conceived as a rigorous and educational immersion into the relief and ecosystems of the Andalusian territory.
The first stop takes place at Lobo Park, a unique research and conservation center dedicated to the Iberian wolf and other subspecies. The design of the enclosures allows visitors to observe the social behavior, communication, and habits of these canids in semi-wild conditions that scrupulously respect their welfare. The visit helps clarify the fundamental ecological role of the wolf as an apex predator within the Mediterranean ecosystem, moving away from historic commercial myths.
The experience follows a comfortable pace, avoiding large groups and allowing a closer and more immersive interpretation of the environment.
Subsequently, the itinerary moves toward El Torcal de Antequera, an impressive limestone landscape declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, a guided walk of approximately 1.5 kilometers is undertaken along trails surrounded by whimsical rock formations (such as "the screw" or "the little hats") shaped by water and wind erosion for over 150 million years, dating back to the Jurassic period.
After concluding the karst exploration, free time is provided for lunch at local establishments, ideal for discovering traditional regional dishes such as porra antequerana. The experience concludes with time to wander through the historic center of Antequera, a monumental city characterized by its rich Baroque and Renaissance legacy. The day concludes with leisure time to explore Antequera’s historic centre.
